I was raised in St. Croix County. I have lived in the Village of North Hudson with my husband Dan Schmit, a life-long county resident, since 2014. Collectively Dan and I have 5 adult children, 4 son and daughter-in-laws and 3 grandchildren. We picked North Hudson for our home because of our shared love for the St. Croix River and because it is central to work and our family in Somerset, New Richmond, Amery and the Twin Cities. We are so glad that we did! Living in North Hudson has enriched our lives. My son, who had just graduated from high school when we moved, got a job at Camp St. Croix where he worked every summer through college. He made lifelong friends as a result. My daughter’s career as a Physical Therapist was launched through her internship as a Physical Therapist at Catalyst. Dan devoted decades of his career to supporting businesses in St. Croix County as a loan officer. He has recently been working with the Small Business Administration (SBA) as Lender Relations Specialist providing critical support to businesses during the pandemic. Dan keeps me in tune with what is needed for a strong business community. I work at the Minnesota Department of Human Services to support county programs and services for dignity, justice and safety for vulnerable adults who have been abused, neglected or financially exploited. Dan and I love walking in our neighborhood and especially walking down to the river and enjoying the beauty of our Village with its trees and parks.
I am a social worker and graduate of St. Catherine University. I have devoted my life to supporting the rights and dignity of older adults and people who are vulnerable. I have experience working with health care systems, home and community-based services, non-profit agencies, law enforcement, the courts and state government. I have served on the board of a national organization. I know how to manage contracts and large budgets, am experienced in leading teams and understand the importance of collaboration, partnership, fiscal responsibility and accountability. I understand how government functions at a local, state and national level. I value giving back. I understand the challenges families face. I raised three children as a single parent after my first husband died. I have experienced how supportive communities are assets to helping children succeed and in helping people who need support to live in their communities. I have been a girl scout leader, Sunday school teacher, parent volunteer and a lay communion minister for people who are hospitalized.
I lead with honesty, integrity and respect for all. I know how to listen and value inclusion. I research facts, review ordinances, consult partners and experts, consider sustainability, as well as short and long-term costs and budget impacts for all decisions.
Non-partisan government is where our American democracy shines. I promise the community that I will make decisions from the perspective of a public servant.
I want to join you in building our community for the common good of All.
